Netflix’s “Cullen” is a serial killer’s new limited series

What’s fact and what’s fiction in Netflix’s tale of serial killer Charles Cullen and his love affair with the “B” word?

Cullen, a man with a penchant for serial killing, has never been caught or convicted of his crimes. As of late, however, that could all change. Netflix is adapting Cullen’s life – and his romance with the death penalty – for a new limited series. Here, we ask if the show actually is true or, like the characters, only fiction.

The internet is buzzing with speculation about the true nature of Netflix’s Netflix adaptation of Cullen, creator of the podcast Serial. The story is a little hard to stomach, considering that Netflix has also become a serial killer factory. The streaming service has released dozens of original shows, many of them featuring serial killers – so much so that the company has an entire page dedicated to them.

“We are the world’s leading provider of entertainment to our members and have built a reputation for being a safe and fun place to explore our culture,” read Netflix’s official statement about the series. It goes on to warn the public away from the show:

While the Netflix version does share some similarities with the podcast from which it draws its name, the show is hardly a faithful telling of Cullen’s story. It’s also not much for insight on how Netflix actually plans to adapt it. And it’s not even a true representation of what is going on behind the scenes at Netflix.
