MADRID (AP) — Shakira was found guilty of tax evasion in Spain on Thursday, facing up to four years in prison for hiding income earned from album sales, concerts and other sources of income in offshore companies.

Shakira’s lawyers told the court that she will appeal and claim she “does not understand what she did wrong,” but Spanish prosecutors said in their lengthy ruling that she was guilty of a “callous and deliberate” tax fraud scheme that cost Spain billions of dollars.

Shakira, 29, is one of Spain’s most famous women, with an international resume that has included selling millions of records, winning three Grammys and establishing her own lifestyle brand.

She won a record $33 million settlement from Apple last year over a copyright infringement claim and had announced plans to open a children’
