Calendar Feedback: City Council column belonged on front page, not on the blog

The ‘I’ve got a great idea, let me run on the blog’ column — and its absence from the front page — is, of course, a perfect demonstration of the power of the City Council’s blog.

As soon as I wrote the column, I called my office and made an appointment to talk to Steve Stavnios, the City Council’s press director. I didn’t want to startle him by asking a question about the blog.

Instead, I asked whether he would mind giving me a copy of the City Council’s online blog.

“Sure, I’ll just take a peek,” he said.

He popped downstairs to the blog’s administration page and grabbed a copy. When I asked him to tell me what he saw, he was clearly more comfortable talking about his online work than he was on the phone.

The City Council has a blog that, for reasons of personal preference, is run by staff: the council blog.

The bloggers are:

Councilman Jerry Weiers has a personal blog, The Jerry Weiers Blog.

Councilman Steve Parson has a personal blog, Steve Parson Blogs.

Councilmen John Sauer and Jim Giddens blog frequently.

Councilman John Davis blogs sporadically.

Councilmen Bob Cadiz and Greg Clausen blog sporadically.

Councilwoman Nancy Floreen has a personal blog, Nancy Floreen’s Blog.
