2 killed, 2 wounded in shooting at Covina house party
A house party in Covina and a shooting nearby have left two people dead and another critically injured.
Police said they were called at 7:31 p.m. Monday to the home on the 200 block of East San Fernando Road on a report of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found two people dead and a third critically injured at a back room.
The victims’ names haven’t been released.
The shooting happened near a home along East San Fernando Road, between the 400 and 600 block of the same street.
A witness who described the scene to the Los Angeles Times said he heard what sounded like a gunshot and then saw people running from the crime scene.
The witness, who also knew the man killed and the injured party and declined to give his name, said he didn’t witness the shooting but did see people trying to escape.
He said he heard the gunshot “pretty good” before he saw police cars arrive about 10 seconds later.
The witness said he saw a group of people huddled in a backyard in a neighborhood on San Fernando Road about two blocks away. It’s not clear how many people were there.
The witness described the scene as calm and said he didn’t see anyone pointing a gun at anyone. He described the three killed as “loud and boisterous” and said they were not involved in the party he was at.
He said he didn’t know anything about the shooting at the home.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau have not made any arrests in the shooting, spokesman Lt. Jon Radus said at a press briefing.
