President Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden are taking the fight against coronavirus seriously and urging Americans to make smart moves in the face of the deadly pandemic that has killed more than 2,000 Americans.
The White House released a six-page action plan on Friday that Biden, who is also a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, also a White House-appointed Commission on Election Security, and a former Obama administration official, is calling on Americans to follow.
“President Trump’s actions over the last several weeks have been commendable and have demonstrated leadership in combating this global health crisis,” Biden wrote.
“While, until now, the US public health response to the coronavirus has been underwhelming,” Biden continued, “I am encouraged by the steps taken since the virus was first identified.”
The administration’s action plan outlines a number of steps that will be taken across the country, as well as the steps that can be taken within each state and city, to protect public health and save lives.
Among the steps outlined are requiring all Americans seeking to obtain a public health license to prove they are in compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) guidelines for social distancing and self-quarantine.
The action plan also outlines a “common sense” order that would extend the suspension of religious gatherings to include celebrations like Easter and Passover.
“This measure is critical to maintaining the public health of millions of Americans and to restoring our free institutions,” Biden wrote. “We must ensure that we, as a nation, honor God and protect our citizens.”
Biden also said that churches, synagogues, mosques and temples can stay open during the crisis.
“This is a matter of respecting our religious institutions,” he wrote. “I have always believed it is a core American value to allow our public places of worship to be places of healing, refuge, and the celebration of other beliefs and moral principles.”
Biden also called on local officials to extend health screenings
